Western Hills and Franklin County softball teams come together for their annual fundraiser.

Frankfort, KY – May 6, 2025 — Under the bright lights of Sally Gaines Field, the Franklin County community came together last night for the Annual Awareness Game, a spirited and heartfelt event titled “Down to Play.” Co-hosted by Franklin County High School and Western Hills, the evening celebrated inclusion, support, and awareness for individuals with Down Syndrome.

Lydia makes the first pitchThe event kicked off at 6:00 PM with an Honorary First Pitch, setting the tone for a night filled with unity and purpose. Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including a baked goods sale and a silent auction, with all proceeds benefiting the Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky. The organization’s mission — Support • Educate • Celebrate — was proudly displayed throughout the venue.

This is just another example of how the Franklin County Schools District continues to lead by example, showing how sports can be a powerful platform for advocacy and inclusion. Events like “Down to Play” not only raise funds but also foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diverse individuals who make up the school community.

As always, we are so incredibly proud of our Wolverines and our Flyers!
